How to use this roadmap
The dates follow the Tamil Nadu school calendar (June reopening, Quarterly around September, Half-Yearly around December, and the school year-end exams in the spring). Keep the phase goals fixed and shift chapters to match your school’s teaching order and your Part III stream subjects.
The +1 year at a glance
Anchored to the TN school calendar. Class 11 uses a single full-year book per subject (Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology come as Volume 1 and Volume 2). Confirm your 2026-27 exam dates with your school.
The weekly rhythm
- School + homework first
- 60 min: a core Part III subject daily (textbook problems, not just reading)
- 30–40 min: a second subject (own notes as you go)
- 15 min: daily objective / short-question practice — the most predictable marks in the paper
- 2 hrs: the week’s hardest topics + one timed written section
- 30 min: Language / English reading and answer-writing
- Evening off — +1 is a marathon into Class 12
- 60–90 min: revise the week; update the weak-topic list
- From November: one full timed practice paper
- Rest — protect it all the way to March
Total: about 2.5–3 focused hours on school days. From January, weekends shift fully to timed full-length papers.
HSC +1 milestones
September
Quarterly examination
First state-calendar checkpoint. Small syllabus — ideal for testing your revision method in the new stream.
December
Half-Yearly examination
The biggest checkpoint of the +1 year. Treat it as a full timed rehearsal.
January
Full model papers
Practise a full-length model paper in every subject, following your school’s pattern.
February
Practicals & revision
Science practical / internal records finalised where applicable; two revision passes.
March
School year-end exams
Class 11 is assessed at school level — the +1 public exam was discontinued from 2025-26. The real goal is the concept base you carry into Class 12.
Stream-wise strategy
| Stream | Finish syllabus by | Revision anchor | Score-mover |
|---|---|---|---|
| Science | End January | Own strand notes + diagrams + solved-twice problems | Textbook line-by-line + timed long-answer practice; practical records where applicable |
| Commerce | End January | Accountancy problem sets + concept summaries | Accuracy in numerical answers and structured theory long answers |
| Arts / Humanities | End January | Chapter summaries + map / date / definition practice | Structured long answers and consistent recall of facts |
| Language & English (all streams) | End January | Prescribed texts + grammar + writing formats | Answer-writing and the memory-based / composition sections |
